Principal Investigator
Dr. Orhan Sisman received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. without thesis after a 5-year integrated program in Physics Education at Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2013. He started his master studies at the Department of Physics in Gebze Technical University 2013. He worked as a project assistant in TUBITAK Project No: 113F403 (2014-2016). He has attended several short- and long-term stays in various research institutes around Europe under the collaboration of COST Action Projects European Network on New Sensing Technologies for Air-Pollution Control and Environmental Sustainability (EuNetAir) TD1105 and Rational design of hybrid organic-inorganic interfaces: the next step towards advanced functional materials (HINT) MP1202. He gained environmental awareness about air quality issues, challenges, and technological solutions by attending several international schools and seminars during the active years of the COST Action Projects.
In 2020, he obtained his Ph.D. degree working on "Strategies to Enhance Gas Sensing Performances of Metal Oxides" at the Sensor Laboratory at the University of Brescia, where he was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dario Zappa and Prof. Elisabetta Comini. Currently, he is working as a postdoctoral researcher at the FunGlass Research Center, located at Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin.
He joined the hybrid glass materials research during his one year training at the Otto Schott Institute of Materials Science, FSU Jena under the supervision of Prof. Lothar Wondraczek. His research interests are organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterials, functional glass, and glass ceramics for energy and sensor applications.
